Yesterday I spent several minutes staring at the Japanese characters 待 and 侍 – and pasting them repeatedly into a dictionary – before I managed to spot the difference: a single bloody stroke. So afterwards, I contrived this example of the change in meaning a single stroke can introduce (and a contrived example it most certainly is).
It’s a fun language!
(I’ll be posting more tidbits of Japanese from time to time. I’ll do my best to keep them simple and interesting.)
